Poole Park Railway – Duty Manager & Driver/Guard

I have been interested in railways from a very early age and in fact I have a photograph of my Grandfather and I on the SMR (Poole Park Railway) in 1977 when I was just two years old!

Whilst still at School I attended Swanage Railway at weekends helping in the shop before joining the footplate grades as a Cleaner and worked my way up to become a passed out Fireman before leaving to persue my professional Railway career with BR..

In July 1991 (26 years ago) aged 16 I joined British Rail as a ‘Traffic’ Trainee which meant learning about the various Railway operating jobs (ie) Drivers, Guards & Signalman etc. I enjoyed them all and in 1992 I was appointed a full time Job as a Signalman at Wool Signal box. After going to Signalling School I passed out for Wool Signalbox on my 18th Birthday…

I transferred two years later to Branksome Signalbox and then in 2003, Branksome and Bournemouth Signal boxes were resignalled in to Bournemouth Area Signalling Centre where I presently work…

I am a very keen Class 47 enthusiast and I ‘part own’ six of the real locomotives through three owning groups…

Away from Railways I am a keen guitarist and a huge fan of Bath Rugby…

Joining the Poole Park Railway was a great opportunity to meet like minded enthusiastic people and to share some of my professional Railway skills to safely run the miniature railway…
